Chinese New Year Walk to Mount Davis Saturday 28th January 2023

Do join us for a short walk followed by an optional late lunch in Kennedy Town.

The area around Mount Davis is interesting part of the city. This walk will take in a rare large open space in the form of the Mount Davis Service reservoir, the Ionosphere Station and, most interesting, the two areas of former British Military Barracks which are slowly being taking over by nature.

The battery was set up for coastal defense in 1912 and did serve to prevent Japanese landings on the western shores of Hong Kong during WWII.

After exploring the old barracks, we will descend to Victoria Road near the University of Chicago campus, where it is possible to see another

gun emplacement (The sunset pavilion) below the campus balcony. Continuing along Victoria Road, we will pass a derelict old village, in which the steps were made from gravestones, and the bathing sheds. Just before the Sail building, we will turn into Sai Ning St, where will can see the Victoria City Boundary Stone and the archway of the former Tung Wah Smallpox Hospital. We will the proceed to Kennedy Town for a late Lunch.

Meeting Place and time: 10.00am at Exit C Kennedy Town MTR ground Level. Distance: 7 km Total Elevation: 320 m. Almost all on paved paths.
