Ma On Shan to Saikung to see Giant Vine at Ngong Ping Plateau: Sunday 11 December

FreeOuting to Ngong Ping Plateau and the Giant Vine followed by meal in Sai Kung Sunday 11th December. (Christmas Hike)
Meeting place & time – 10.10 a.m. at Exit B of Ma On Shan MTR Station. Look for Maureen –
Hike stats – 10 km, total ascent 200 m, estimated hiking time 4 hours.
Ma On Shan Station is on the Tuen Ma Line. Please check your journey time from your home on
Google Maps. Please be on time – we need to catch the bus!
Route : Ma on Shan MTR> Bus to BBQ site>Ma On Shan Country Trail> Ngong Ping [Mac Trail
M081]> Mac Trail M085> Mau Ping> dirt/rock trail & then concrete path to Sai Kung.

What to bring – Octopus, Cash, Personal ID, fruit, snack, appropriate clothing for weather of the |

day, shoes with good grip/traction soles, Hiking stick (suggested), 1 L+ of water. Christmas Hat. |
Ngong Ping Plateau The Giant Vine
Hike Description. We will skip the long uphill on concrete by taking the bus to Ma On Shan BBQ
site – the beginning of the Ma On Shan Trail. This trail gives good views out over Sai Kung after
reaching the Ngong Ping Plateau. The ascent is approx. 200 m initially concrete path, then dirt
path with stone steps. On reaching the plateau, we will have good views out over Sai Kung and
can watch the paragliders swooping around the hillside and maybe see a cow or two.
After skirting Buffalo Hill, we will descend to Mau Ping rest area for a short break and a visit to
the giant Box Bean Vine. We will then descend on to Sai Kung and enjoy an early dinner.
